Instead of taking elements of non-Western music and wedging it into a pop music structure, Brian Jones recorded this enchanting Moroccan group in 1968 without such trappings.A landmark release when finally issued in 1971, it set the foundation for what became the genre known as World Music. And while Jones never saw his vision of incorporating the Jajouka sound into the Rolling Stones, the band did utilize Jajouka musicians on the 1989 release, Steel Wheels. The vision of Jones began an appreciation and sharing of musical sounds, which continue to expanded the horizons and visions of Western musicians nearly 40 years later.
