We use the clumping style litter with this, and it's working well. The very large opening allows easy reaching with a sifting scoop, it holds a LOT of litter, and there's plenty of room for even an American-style wide-load kitty to fit inside and do their business. The front flap is cute enough, but it can stick a little on the bottom lip of the entry. We just leave ours folded back. With daily cleaning and a decent clumping litter, odor buildup isn't drastic, and the cats seem to prefer having the easier access and a place to peep out while engaging in their "quality time".This is almost big enough to hold a small dog; it's definitely big enough for even a hefty cat (one of ours is a twenty-pounder). Simple design, reasonably sturdy, and decent litter containment make for a good combination.Given:-senior cat gentleman who has trouble with tall-entry points and is a high pee-er;-young cat who loves to dig to the core of the Earth and make pyramids of cat litter;-nice modern entryway that can be ruined by a cat litter box there;-husband who doesn't like cleaning cat litters - especially if he has to open the lid all the time. This cat litter solved it all! It came undamaged, all the locks work great, and I took off the clear door thingy immediately - no need for it.Older kitty is happy to get in and out easily, and no more pee through the crack and on the wall. It all stays inside.Younger kitty digs all he wants and no cat litter gets outside. And lots of space inside! This litter box looks so nice that it doesn't ruin the look of the room at all. It blends so well we don't even notice it.And last but not least - cleaning it is a breeze with that lift top part, faster and more convenient.Everyone is happy! And for $35 only?? I'm sticking to it. Happy family, thank you very much!Missy is 5 years old n the vet recommended that I consider changing her box. Presently she uses a top entry that now isn’t convenient as she ages. So I scouted n came up with this. My 15 lb thought it was a fun area to play in, but he’s used to it now. I had the door up so they would get used to it. I like the roominess especially for the big boy. I plan on putting the door down so they can enter using the door. I have 2 cats n 3 litter boxes. The Pet Mate top entry is my favorite. This one the locks were tight but it locked. Holds substantial litter. We r getting used to it. My big boy (MMELT) or Mel likes it. Weird name right. He is a therapy cat for my daughter. Named after grandchildren initials. Megan Mychal Emily Liam n Tori.So here’s to the future with the KIDS.I cut the door down to the second row from bottom and now the kids are not afraid to use it. I used a scissor for this and the kids think it is just great. So the door is down and the liter is in the box> I modified it.I have two big cats one day I realized I need to give them a bigger litter box because one of them is Maine coon mixed. I bought one and they never used the smaller old ones anymore even tho I washed them and put new litter in. They just love the big jumbo one, I had to buy another new one, now they are happier. One of my cat (the biggest one 16 pounds) is really appreciated the bigger bathroom, she is more active, meows a lot and tries to jump on my desk like when she was a kitten. It is not a lot of money to change the litter box, but they definitely love the bigger spaces.I have one small domestic short-haired cat as well as a very tall and long tortoiseshell cat. The latter has always had a difficult time because she is so tall and long when it comes to litter box comfort. Love this one so very much and will definitely buy it again. I was finally able to teach them how to use a cat door on the box because of this product. This resulted in a much more effective way of controlling litter tossing and odor release through to entrance of the box. I sooooo very much recommend it!Very large, easy to clean, and my cats love it, for the fastest scooping ( 5 seconds) we are using wire scoopers, such as Van Ness Pets EZ Sift Stainless Steel Cat Litter Scoop and BasicForm Fast Sifting Cat Litter Scoop - both scoopers we bought here at amazon. I am happy with this litterbox and the scoopers. We don't remove the lid completely to scoop out stuff, we only lift the top window up.I bought this box years ago and it worked well for me. Finally it was time to get a replacement and why mess with something that works? I have two cats and they insist on using the same box. It's good to have the cover so you don't get a full spray of litter all over the place and the size seems to be really good for two cats with, ahem, different ways of doing their thing. I have zero complaints and when this box is old and needs to be retired, I'm going to look through my orders and just buy another one.My cats prefer the door to remain open. This litter box is roomy enough for my large cats to use with ease. It is easy to keep clean with the top on or off. Has a nice decor look in my bathroom corner. I’m very pleased with this litter box. I don’t have the need to lift it with litter inside so I couldn’t tell you how the handle holds up to weight. I simply slide it out away from the wall & lift off the top & clean it daily then add clean litter when needed before I set it back again.Having just taken on two 11 month old Ragdoll boys, I spent ages researching products, including litter trays. There are so many products on the market, it's difficult to know where to begin. After reading reviews, this 'Catit Jumbo Hooded Cat Pan' seemed ideal, and I'm pleased to say, it appears to be excellent so far. I was expecting my cats to use one litter tray each, however, they share one. These are brothers and indoor cats, so it may be different for other cats.Firstly, this product ARRIVES IN A HUGE BOX - From memory, the packaging was approx (L) 137cm X (W) 50cm X (D) 50cm. For some reason the hood and litter tray are packaged next to each other (lengthways), as opposed to the product already being assembled. I'm sure Amazon have their reasons for packing the product this way!Below are some tips to help should you decide to purchase this product and I'll try to include photos:ASSEMBLING - Having read through reviews, I was expecting to have problems with the sliding clips used to connect the hood and litter tray together. Yes they are a bit stiff, and you do need to ensure they are in the locked position, otherwise you could end up with the tray disconnecting from the hood, when you try to move it by lifting the litter box from the handle at the top.The photo of this product on Amazon only shows 2 clips for some reason (1 clip each side) - but there are actually 4 clips (2 each side). If you look closely, you should be able to see embossed padlocks where the clips are attached on each side of the hood - these indicate locked or unlocked, but they are not easy to see. So, before you connect the lid to the tray (with the door flap facing you), you need to ensure the clips are forward (unlocked position), then once the hood is attached properly, push the clips away from you into the locked position. You do need to check the clips are as far back as possible, otherwise the hood will come apart from the base when you try and lift it from the handle at the top.CARBON FILTER - The tiger design at the top of the hood is where the carbon filter is inserted. The first filter is already included, but these do need to be replaced regularly to help eliminate odor - they cost approx £4 for a pack of 2. The filter does seem to contain the cat odor, providing the door flap is down. Some of the reviews indicate that the carbon filter is of a poor design, as the filter is exposed, and their cat(s) can get to it easily and shred it. One of my cats was scratching the filter, so I sprayed it with a little bit of 'Feliway Cat Calming Spray' and he's now stopped. The spray is quite expensive (approx £8 for 20ml). However, I've used it for other purposes; for example, on the cats' bedding when I went to collect them, then again for their first trip to the vets - they were remarkably calm! I've also used the spray on furniture and carpets around the home to help settle them in and stop any scratching of furniture.TRANSPARENT DOOR FLAP - Measuring approx (W) 21-25cm (slightly wider at the top) by (H) 26cm; this is great for larger cats. The door flap is attached to the carbon filter at the top of the hood, so it can be folded up and back onto the actual hood if your cat isn't used to using a cat flap. Alternatively, the door can be removed completely, providing you are very careful; by pulling the plastic catch away from the bit where the door flap is inserted into the catch. Once your cat is comfortable using its litter box, you can then try him or her with the door flap down. He/she may need encouraging by putting something under the door flap to wedge it up/slightly open at first, and then gradually lowering it until the door flap is completely down. Some reviews indicate issues with the door sticking. I've noticed it can be problematic if the top part (the tiger design with the carbon filter) isn't properly in place - it's easily fixed by re-aligning both sides (pushing it down from the top). If you have a small cat, you may find it takes him or her a little bit of time to get used to the door flap. Also, the door is quite noisy when it flaps back into position, so this may scare some cats at first. If this happens, I would recommend following the steps above until the door is fully down and your cat is used to the noise.LITTER TRAY (Bottom section) - This is very deep and requires a lot of litter. The tray is approx 15cm high and deeper at the back. My cats seem to like to dig deep and flick litter everywhere, so I fill the tray to approx 6-8cm. You may be able to get away with less cat litter, but it will depend on your cat(s), the litter you use and frequency of cleaning the litter tray. I have 2 neutered boys and they appear to be fairly clean, but I understand from some reviews, that some cats urinate against the side, and the urine leaks out onto the floor - the reason for leakage appears to happen as there is no overlap between the lid and tray.LITTER BAGS - I wasn't able to find any litter bags/liners that fit this litter box. I posted a question on Amazon but didn't get any helpful responses. With these being my first cats, I was concerned about cleaning the tray out, but it is relatively easy, although again, it will depend on which cat litter you use and whether your cats are messy or not.CAT LITTER - very few people talk about which cat litter they use with this 'Catit Jumbo Hooded Cat Pan'. Firstly, I now know there are important factors to consider with cat litter choice. These factors are cost, wastage, clumping vs non-clumping, environmentally friendly, hygienic, eliminates odor, time and ease of cleaning, and finally trailing from the litter tray. I'm sure there are many other things to consider.I had planned to use Pettex Pampuss Woodbase, as I understand it's more environmentally friendly than other products, but I was discouraged from using it due to the volume required for this 'Jumbo Catit Litter Box' and possible wastage - apparently the pellets crumble and turn into sawdust, so you either have to sieve it regularly after use to separate the sawdust and pellets for re-use, or throw the entire litter and sawdust away and re-fill the tray with new litter. My understanding is that, due to the size of the tray, this product will either be time consuming and quite dusty when separating the pellets from the sawdust, or it will work out quite expensive if refilling the tray each time. It does however, have great reviews, so please do not be discouraged. At the end of the day it's down to individual choice.I was advised to use Catsan hygiene (granules) non-clumping, as it is apparently one of the better litters for eliminating odor. I understand this is one of the preferred cat litters on the market. I've found it gets quite smelly the more it is used as urine is absorbed into the granules. It may just be me, and take a little bit of time to get used to as these are my first cats. What I have found with this litter is, if your cat urinates in the same place all the time, the granules become less absorbent, and the urine collects at the bottom of the tray - making it smelly (and after time, stains the bottom of the tray). To give you an idea of the amount of Catsan litter I used to fill the tray to approx 6cm deep was 10L.I've researched other litters extensively, and I'm going to try Cat's Best Öko Plus next. From the reviews on Amazon (over 300), it appears to to have many advantages. It seems, that whilst it appears more expensive, it will save you more money in the long run - especially if you have more than one cat. It's eco friendly as you only need to completely fill the litter tray once and add litter - apparently it clumps around the cat waste so you only remove the litter where the cats have been (no wastage); its biodegradable and can be flushed down the toilet; it's hygienic; and last of all, it holds odor well. The only negative I could really see was that it treads more than other litters do, and can end up around the house.*UPDATE ON CAT LITTER*I'm now using 2 Catit Jumbo litter boxes and have switched over to Cat's Best Öko Plus litter. Lots of positives: it eliminates urine odor (my cats don't bury their poo so that can smell a little); its environmentally friendly; it clumps around their wee so you can just scoop it out and flush it down the toilet; it's more cost effective as you only scoop out the litter around the pet waste. Providing the litter is 6-8 cm deep you only need to keep topping up, then every 2-3 weeks clean the box out completely. At this point I like to replenish the litter boxes with new litter, so I will let the litter run low so I'm not throwing too much away. You could however, re-use the litter and mix in new litter as it doesn't smell. Only one negative: the litter trails everywhere - even with a Jumbo Easyology cat litter mat. I just keep a cord free Hoover nearby so I can hoover each time I scoop out. With regard to scooping out the litter, I keep a small container and scoop next to my litter boxes, so I can transfer the litter into the container inside the box then flush it straight down the toilet.CLEANING - Removal of pet wasteThe front door flap and carbon filter lift up and over for easy access of removing soiled letter.CLEANING - Complete cleanThe connecting 4 clips unlock the hood from the base to allow the litter to be pored out of the litter tray into a bag.Cleaning the tray is fairly easy for me as I have an outdoor tap to get rid of the worst and rinse the tray out (you could always use a bucket of water or a watering can). I have purchased 'Savic Refresh'r Cleaning Spray' which really does leave the tray and room smelling nice and fresh (approx £4). It's an antibacterial household spray which is safe to use on pet products, and, in addition, can be used for to remove stains and urine odor (I've not needed to use it on stains yet). If you can't find it on Amazon try google search.I hope you find this review helpful.I was amazed how big this tray was when it arrived! The box was huge and the cats could have a party in there. Seems good quality and it does have a nice deep bottom tray so litter stays in. I took the door off till they get used to it. The flip up lid is handy for cleaning. It does need quite a bit of litter mind you to give a decent layer but my cats love it. Great price too. This is definitely the best litter box I've had, in years of cat ownership. After having one of these and a smaller litter, I have now replaced the small litter with another of these as the extra space makes such a difference in a two cat household. It also even feels less out of place than some smaller litters due to it's square shape, which fits well into corners and against walls, unlike more domed models. The filter and door flap work very well to keep odours from leaking out until they're really reached critical level, and although my cats initially took a while to accept having a door on their litter, they now use it just fine with only a little resentment.Pros:- Filter and door keep smells contained- Large size makes it comfortable for cats to move around in and use- Square shape fits better in the home than standard domes litters- Handle makes it easy to lift- Fold back door/top makes it very easy to clean without having to remove the whole top half- High sides prevent leakageCons:Locking mechanism between top and bottom is a bit clunky and can sometimes seem locked when it is not, resulting in accidentally pulling the top off. This lidded cat litter tray is highly recommended. We have an adult cat who was peeing ‘high’. This is a great litter tray design as the lid seals to the bottom so no urine can escape between the top and bottom fittings. I have not lifted the tray by the handle as I am afraid it might be too heavy as we use heavy clumping litter. But to be fair it is probably more substantial than it looks. Easy to clean with the flap which can be raised for daily removal of clumps. We removed the door as personal choice for our cat. Cat used it no problem first time and was not bothered by having litter tray with a lid having previously had an open tray.I've bought this after my little cat got bigger and refuse to use the previous one, even it was just cleaned. After I've change it, he start to use it immediately. I have to mention that the previous one was a Ferplast Genica Cat Toilet Home. I had no problem with the previous model with my 7 years old cat ,that is smaller (I've used it for the last 2 years without any incidents), but if your cat is getting bigger and it doesn't want to use your current "toilet" you may consider this one as a replacement or if you already know that your cat is a from a big breed just go with this one from the first try.A nice thing is that the front door can be back flicked with the top part so you can clean it easily .I would give it 5 stars if the grip system between top part and the bottom would be a little bit better. I wouldn't recommend to hold it from the handle when it's loaded.
